Humberview Secondary School has an active student body of roughly 1150 students who are engaged in a number of extracurricular teams, clubs and councils. Our athletes are encouraged to get involved in student leardership initiatives throughout the school in order to development interpersonal and leadership skills.
Facilities
Humberview has two wood floor double-gyms - one of which is newly renovated as of August 2016 - with 18 baskets between the two gyms.
The school also has its own functional training area equipped with squat racks, TRX, battle ropes and plyo equipment as well as a dedicated weight room.
Periodization and Training
Competition and training schedules are carefully designed to assist student-athletes in balancing academic success with a competitive basketball schedule.
A competitive schedule within the OSBA league format and supplemented with participation in 4-5 notable Canadian and U.S. tournaments will provide student-athletes with exposure in a variety of settings against some of the top high school programs both domestically and abroad.
Team practices and individual sessions will occur 6-7 times per week and will be focused on implementing concepts, philosophies and technical skill development created by Canada Basketball.
Strength training will be conducted 3 days per week using both on and off-site facilities, with certified trainers who will implement a program developed by the Canadian Sport Institute of Ontario (CSIO).
Testing and Monitoring
Athletes will receive a Functional Movement Screen (FMS) during the intake process. These results will be used to generate individual pre-hab routines to help minimize the risk of injury.
Testing will also cover hydration, neuromuscular fatigue and sleep quality. Athletes will be provided with a Polar H7 heartrate monitor for use during all training sessions and will be expected to maintain a daily feedback log. Data will be used in order to modify and adjust training loads where necessary.
Athlete Development Approach
Student-athletes will be provided with a holistic approach to development and well-being through:
